1- HOW DO I GET THERE?
Getting to Aura Surf Resort is easier than almost all other surf resorts in Indonesia! Book your flights to Medan in Indonesia (the easiest way is to go via Singapore or Kuala Lumpur ). Depending on what time your flight arrives in Medan, you can either fly to Aura surf Resort on the same day, or it may be necessary to stay overnight in Medan- in which case we can recommend excellent, clean and affordable places to stay. A representative from Aura will book your domestic Indonesian flights to Aura Surf Resort.
Once on our island you will be greeted by one of our staff who will transport you and your boards to our resort. This is a short 15 minute drive on newly sealed roads through small villages and past beautiful beaches. We have a world class peak right out the front of our Resort. You can be surfing the same day!
- INTERNAL FLIGHTS -
Wings Air is AUD$140 return not including board bags. Board bags are paid at check in. Maximum 2.1m in length. Board bags are approx 200,00 IDR ( AUD$20 ) per board.

A set of shelves are found in each bungalow for your items, lockable bedside table draws for your valuables, plus a sink and bathroom lockable cabinet.
Western style bathroom facilities are attached to the rear of the bungalows. Each room contains electricity points and fans, purified drinking water, complimentary coffee and tea, towels, face towels and soaps. There is a spacious verandah with relaxing chairs and coffee

5- WHAT OTHER FACILITIES DOES THE RESORT HAVE?
Aside from our bungalows we have a beautiful main house. It is equipped with many modern luxuries, including dining areas, cable tv, dvd, stereo, comfy couches, hammocks and plenty of outdoor chill areas, including a large outdoor deck and bbq area. We have a surf hut close to the beach, with perhaps the coolest chair you will ever see, so you can chill and watch the peak directly in front.
6- WHAT OTHER ACTIVITIES ARE THERE?
We are fortunate to have world awesome coral reefs close by that offer great snorkeling and fishing. If you are a passionate fisherman or snorkeller we suggest you bring your own gear. We can take you on day boat trips ( on our 27ft speedboat ) to one of the most beautiful
islands we have ever seen. There are swimming holes with incredible waterfalls and rainforest nearby. You can hire a motorbike with board racks and explore the island yourself. Head into town and choose from a number of internet cafes and wi-fi spots. Relaxing walks through rice fields and fresh clean rivers, or more challenging hikes up the
mountain. For those looking for a bit of competitive excitement, we have a pool table, an awesome 9 hole putt putt golf course, table tennis, darts and a number of board and card games. There are plenty of things to see and do.
7- CAN I WITHDRAW MONEY ON THE ISLAND?
We strongly recommend that you withdraw a sufficient amount of money from the ATMs in Medan. There are ATMs on our island but highly unreliable with foreign cards- and even when they work only accept Visa cards. YOU SHOULD NOT RELY ON THEM TO WITHDRAW CASH! We would suggest at least 5 million Indonesian Rupiahs, more if you wish to hire motorbikes or arrange boat excursions. Our local grounds staff and security greatly appreciate being tipped ( at the end of the trip ) and we also have a donation box which helps the surrounding villages with education, health education etc. So please tip and donate generously.
8- WHAT ARE THE EVACUATION PLANS IN CASE OF A TSUNAMI?
We are fortunate to be in a very good position at Aura Surf Resort. We are nicely nestled in front of large easily accessible hills, just metres behind. There are sirens in the nearby mosques and warnings are issued on all local tv programmes.
9- SHOULD I BE CONCERNED ABOUT MALARIA?
It is a matter of personal choice whether to take anti- malarial medication. Mosquitos are annoying and can transmit deadly diseases. Please be aware to put on mosquito repellant in the early morning and afternoon, evening when they are most active. There is extremely little malaria and dengue fever on our island, but it is better to be safe than sorry. Mosquito nets on beds should be tucked under the mattress with the opening securely fastened as to not come open during the night. A fan should also be left on which deters the mosquitos greatly. With the above recommendations actioned the chances of getting bitten by a mozzie is extremely minimal. We suggest applying plenty of mosquito repellant, but if you are really worried about it… best to bring some meds.
10- HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL I BE SURFING WITH?
Aura Surf Resort holds a maximum of 14 guests, and although that’s not a big crowd, we are fortunate enough to have waves all round the island. From the world class peak out the front, barreling reef breaks, fun beachies and everything in between, there are waves to suit all level of surfer and to keep the numbers down. Plus… the locals don’t surf and tour operators do not visit the area. Score!
11- CAN I BE CONTACTED DURING MY STAY AT THE RESORT?
Yes. There is good mobile phone coverage at our resort. Sim cards are easily purchased on the island and offer excellent calling rates ( cheaper than Australia! ) sim cards can be trimmed to size for smart phones. Internet can be accessed through your phone coverage- but don't expect fast speeds, really only suitable for checking emails. Alternatively contact your network provider prior to your departure to arrange global roaming, although purchasing a local sim for $5 is the best and most reliable option. Family can also contact our resort via our company phone line and email if necessary.
12- HOW MANY & WHAT KIND OF BOARDS SHOULD WE BRING?
You will most likely surf on your standard ( 6’2 ) short board the majority of your trip, however when the swell gets a little bigger you’ll be glad to have your bigger ( 6’10 ) board ready to go.
As the majority of people in Simeulue are Muslim, women are respectfully asked to dress moderately. This unfortunately means no bikini or topless sunbaking. We can however arrange boat trips to secluded beaches where this is not an issue.
Guys should also wear t-shirts when making trips outside of the resort
14- WHAT ELSE SHOULD WE PACK?
It’s always nice to travel light. You’ll probably find you spend most of your time in the same pair of boardshorts and t-shirts, you will hopefully be spending most of your time in the water after all. We have prepared a list of essentials to help get you on your way.
